Jvari monastery dates back from 6th century and represents a Georgian orthodox monastery. Temple is built on a hill opposite Mtskheta, at the confluence of Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers.

According to the history shortly after the adoption of Christianity in Georgia (Iberia) King Mirian III erected an enormous wooden cross on this site. In the second half of the 6th century here was built a small church beside the Holy Cross. Jvari church is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
