Trancoso, like much of the southern coast of Bahia, features a landscape of cliffs and plateaus very close to the shore, beaches with reefs, and coconut palms growing in light-colored sand. Trancoso stands out as a destination that offers tranquility along with good lodging and dining options. Trancoso is located on the so‑called Discovery Coast, in the southern part of the state of Bahia, just 30 kilometers from Porto Seguro, which is its main access airport. The so‑called “Quadrado” is one of its main tourist attractions, in addition to its beaches. This open square, surrounded by colorful, simple houses, is the historic center of Trancoso. It sits on one of the high plateaus so common along the Bahian coast, about 400 meters from the shoreline, and is centered around a small church dating back to the 17th century.
