L’Estartit Spain

L’Estartit is a decentralized municipal entity within the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí. It has about 2,962 inhabitants (2015) and generates around 60% of the municipality’s income through tourism. It is just over a kilometer from the Medes Islands archipelago, so dive tourism is a major source of income for most of the year. Behind the town rises Roca Maura peak, where the Montgrí Massif begins and extends about eight kilometers inland, dividing the region into Upper Empordà and Lower Empordà. From L’Estartit you can take walking excursions that start with a steep climb only five minutes from the town center. It is a town set in an ideal environment, with a long sandy beach, good access, and a free parking area next to the beach. The waters are shallow, making it an ideal place for children. On its southern side is the mouth of the Ter River, separated from the town by a wetland area.
