About the destination: The Metropolitan City of Milan is a metropolitan city located in the Lombardy region of Italy. The city of Milan serves as its capital. This metropolitan city replaced the Province of Milan and encompasses the city of Milan along with 133 other municipalities or communes (comuni). It was initially formed through a local authorities reform (Law 142/1990) and later established by Law 56/2014. It has been operational since January 1, 2015. The Metropolitan City of Milan is led by the Metropolitan Mayor (Sindaco metropolitano) and the Metropolitan Council (Consiglio metropolitano). Since June 2016, Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of the capital city, has also served as the mayor of the Metropolitan City.
